The Store Renovation

“Creating Spaces, Connecting People, Celebrating Community”

Embracing Herbertstowns long standing community spirit The Store, now a derelict building, is being renovated to once again be the vibrant heart of the community.

Building on Herbertstowns heritage of friendship and collaboration The Store will renew social and economic well-being while bringing environmental, business and educational opportunities, through a multi-purpose Community and Enterprise Centre.

Community volunteers with Herbertstown & District Mens Shed and Herbertstown Development Association have established Herbertstown Hub CLG, a community social enterprise to develop and operate The Store building under a long-term community lease from Limerick City & County Council.

Herbertstown Hub will offer The Store Café and Community Garden, the permanent base for the Herbertstown & District Mens Shed and Business spaces for services and offices, including remote working, while renovating the currently derelict building.

The development will augment the existing Parochial Hall and Community Sports Field, which already enhance community life, by adding necessary amenities which are currently missing from this dynamic community.

Our objective reflects National Government policy in Our Rural Future and Town Centre First policies as well as Limerick City and County Councils Limerick Development Plan.

The overall objective revitalises our rural village and hinterland community, supporting residents and visitors. It builds on local strengths and resilience to create a desirable place to live and work through innovative solutions to address both social, environmental and economic challenges while encouraging and availing of volunteering – a key success in our community.

This project enhances social, cultural, economic and environmental well-being and quality of life through community infrastructure development based on community participation with social cohesion and inclusion in our age friendly community. It contributes to creating a sustainable, inclusive, smart, climate and economic resilient future in our county and nation.
